Welcome to Astoria First Assembly of God church! We're so glad that you are here--We've got a place for you!!

We would like to cordially invite you and your family to join us this Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 10:30 AM, for our In-Person Worship Service.

Pastor Nick Buhler is doing a series on the book of Acts. This Sunday, he will be sharing on Acts, Chapter 11.

“The Jump from Evangelism to Mission” Acts 11:1-30

Subject: How did the Holy Spirit facilitate the jump from Evangelism (Jews to Jews) to Mission (Jews to Gentiles)?

Complement: To guide Peter through wavering direction, to send Barnabas the Includer with Saul the instrument, and Agabus for prophetic correction and direction.

Big idea: The Holy Spirit guided Peter, sent Barnabas and Saul with Agabus and prophets to move the church from Evangelism (gospel in culture) to Mission (gospel across culture).

“The apostles and the brothers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”(Acts 11:1–3 NIV)

We’ve seen how the Lord had to prepare Peter in preparation for his going to the house of the Gentile centurion, Cornelius. No Jew would think of going into a Gentile home, much less eating with Gentiles, for fear of contracting ceremonial defilement. The Lord Jesus had clearly told the apostles to go into all the world to preach the gospel to every creature. But in their centuries-old Jewish way of thinking, the disciples thought that Jesus meant for them to go and preach to Jews who were scattered all over the world. The thought of preaching the gospel to pagan Gentiles and of those Gentiles coming to salvation without first becoming religious Jews was simply unthinkable.

However, now the unthinkable has happened for Peter. He wisely had taken six Jewish believers with him to Cornelius’ house, who witnessed what God was doing. They all saw the Holy Spirit fall upon the Gentiles in just the same way as He had fallen upon the believing Jews on the Day of Pentecost. But now Peter goes back to Jerusalem and the Jewish believers there call him on the carpet because he “went to uncircumcised men and ate with them” (11:3).

We hope that you will make joining us at Church a part of your weekly plans. With a relevant message, engaging worship, and plenty of activities for the whole family, this Sunday will be a celebration @ Astoria First Assembly which you don’t want to miss!

Worship come_worship_with_us.png

Pastor Steve Myall will be leading worship! The Holy Spirit is always THE true Worship Leader.

Worship is anything you do that declares the worth of the Lord, which deepens your relationship with Jesus, and urges others to follow after him. That is to say, worship changes as our relationship with Jesus grows deeper.

When was the last time you went before the Lord, and just listened? Worship can be very active, with singing, fellowship, and public church services, but there comes a point where our worship must include being still, and meditating on God’s word.
