Pastor Nick and Janice Buhler will share Message: #4. "The Call of MERCY – Hope for a Prodigal," in their series for the month of February – From Confrontation to Commission!

In Matthew 9:9-13, Jesus calls one of the most despised persons in society. That "calling" confronts a religious spirit, but leads to one of the greatest commissions of Jesus.

The secret to loving difficult people like Jesus did, is MERCY. A religious spirit condemns more people to hell than bars and nightclubs do. So how can a person overcome a religious spirit? “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." Jesus’ offer of salvation to sinners threatens the Pharisees’ way of life, yet it is at the heart of the gospel he came announcing, “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice” which is a quotation from Hosea 6:6.

“Sacrifice” summarized observance of religious rituals. More important to God was “mercy” (the Septuagint rendering of Hebrew hesed, meaning, “steadfast love”), which would have led the Pharisees to care for these sinners as Jesus did.”
