Welcome to Astoria First Assembly of God church! We are beyond excited that you are here! We've got a place for you!!
It’s our great pleasure to invite you and your family to join us this Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 10:30 AM, for our Worship Service.
Pastor Nick and Janice Buhler are doing a series on the book of Acts. This Sunday, they will be sharing on the Fourth Chapter of Acts -- By what power or by what name have you done this? Why are we persecuted and how do we overcome and advance the Mission of Christ in spite of persecution?
Rulers, elders, and scribes… were gathered together: This was a scene of power and intimidation. This same group of leaders had recently condemned Jesus to death, and they wanted them to know that they had the power to do the same thing to Peter and John.
By what power or by what name have you done this? The ideas behind by what power and by what name are virtually the same. In their thinking, the power resided in the name, because the name represented the character of the person.
To Summarize Acts 4, I’ll give you three points:
First, there is no other name. Tell us, Peter and John, you untrained and ignorant men, tell us in what name you performed this miracle and healed this man. I’m glad you asked. If you want to know the name of the person who really healed this lame man it is not Simon Peter. It is the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified. He is alive and He did this, and there is no other name given under heaven among men by which we must be saved. No other name.
Second, there is no other option. Well, Peter and John, as your religious and civil authorities we command you to preach and teach no longer in this name. Well, whether you think we should or not, the simple fact is that we have no other option. We cannot help ourselves; we cannot help but preach and teach in His name.
Third, there is no other power. We are filled with the Spirit, and it’s the fullness of the Spirit alone that enables us to conduct our ministries with (BOLDNESS) spiritual power and effectiveness. That’s what I desire for our church and for you. May we be known in the community and in this world as a church that proclaims no other name but Jesus, no other option than spreading the Gospel, and no other power but the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
We hope that you will make joining us at Church a part of your weekly plans. With a relevant message, engaging worship, and plenty of activities for the whole family, this Sunday will be a celebration @ Astoria First Assembly which you don’t want to miss!
Pastor Steve & Lori will be leading worship! The Holy Spirit is always THE true Worship Leader. He’s leading us to glorify Jesus, revealing Jesus to our hearts, and performing miracles in our midst. When the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the Hunger of His people collide, there’s no telling what could happen.
We aren’t simply gathering to worship – we’re worshipping the Father, our merciful God, our great Redeemer, etc.
Please come and join us this Sunday! We invite you to come experience life with us!
We hope to see you in church this weekend!
Have a Blessed Week!
